It helps us reach even more future leaders to wrap up this season. I'm thrilled to introduce you to the team who inspires my own leadership journey every single day. My husband and our podcast producer, Dylan Rogers, and our two incredible children, Naomi and Mateo. Today we're expLoreng leadership right where it matters at home. So let's dive in. All right, family, thank you all for joining mom in the studio.
00;02;11;06 - 00;02;13;03
Dora & Naomi
Hi.
00;02;13;06 - 00;02;13;25
Dylan & Mateo
Hi.
00;02;13;27 - 00;02;35;19
Dora & Naomi
How are you? All right, so I'm going to do something very different. We're going to do something for the first time. Our children have been wanting to be part of the show. They usually work behind the scenes. But they are very excited. They are going to join our program.
00;02;35;23 - 00;02;41;21
Dora & Naomi
So, Mateo, I'm going to start with your first question. How do you lead?
00;02;41;23 - 00;02;46;13
Dylan & Mateo
I lead by playing fair on each team.
00;02;46;15 - 00;02;49;02
Dora & Naomi
And what teams that,
00;02;49;04 - 00;02;59;17
Dylan & Mateo
my soccer team. And if they fail. Just, so you know, I say this. Just remember this first intent and learning.
00;02;59;19 - 00;03;01;18
Dora & Naomi
Good job.
00;03;01;20 - 00;03;04;05
Dylan & Mateo
That’s what “F.A.I.L.” stands for.
00;03;04;08 - 00;03;10;17
Dora & Naomi
Now what makes it a good lead versus a bad one, when you're playing with friends?
00;03;10;19 - 00;03;16;21
Dylan & Mateo
We end up working it out. When?
00;03;16;24 - 00;03;43;19
Dylan & Mateo
We are in, like an argument or something. So we always end up working it out. We just. I just go up, tell them whose ball is it? Who knows which. As they keep fighting like “it's our ball, It’s our ball”. And I'm telling them like it's that team’s ball, not ours.
00;03;43;22 - 00;03;46;10
Dora & Naomi
Good job. So you play fair?
00;03;46;12 - 00;03;49;21
Dylan & Mateo
Yeah, I like to play fair a lot.
00;03;49;24 - 00;03;56;25
Dora & Naomi
Now, what kind of leader do you want to be when you're older?
00;03;56;27 - 00;03;59;17
Dylan & Mateo
I still want to be a soccer player.
00;03;59;19 - 00;04;01;12
Dora & Naomi
What questions do you have for me?
00;04;01;13 - 00;04;03;27
Dylan & Mateo
What questions I have for you.
00;04;03;29 - 00;04;05;00
Dora & Naomi
Yeah. What questions?
00;04;05;06 - 00;04;09;05
Dylan & Mateo
What do you think about leadership?
00;04;09;07 - 00;04;55;21
Dora & Naomi
What do I think about leadership? I think, what do I think of leadership? Well, when you say leadership, I think about mom and you and dad and and it's like a thing. It's not really like a thing you do. It's like the way you do it. Like, if you had a team captain, they were like the leader, right? And so they would lead the team. But you could also have, like, a goalie or a player leading a team by, like, helping guard the soccer ball or, like, not helping to not get it in the goal so they can.
00;04;55;23 - 00;05;17;21
Dora & Naomi
So a leader doesn't have to be, like an actual leader. You can like you can be like the boss and like people will say like you're the leader, but there could be. So an employee who leads the team better than the boss and everyone's a leader.
00;05;17;24 - 00;05;20;01
Dylan & Mateo
That’s what you think about leadership?
00;05;20;04 - 00;05;20;21
Dora & Naomi
Yep.
00;05;20;24 - 00;05;23;20
Dylan & Mateo
What do you think about Mom’s show?
00;05;23;23 - 00;05;41;21
Dora & Naomi
Mom show? I like the show because I like hearing, the voices in the car. It's fun. And it's. I like hearing Abuela’s voice, and I like hearing Titi Rocio’s voice, and it's purple. So, yeah.
00;05;41;23 - 00;05;46;29
Dylan & Mateo
What kind of leader do you wanna be when you're older, though.
00;05;47;01 - 00;06;03;25
Dora & Naomi
What leader do I want to be when I'm older? I want to be fair. And I want to like, keep things happy. And, what do you think about the podcast, Mateo?
00;06;03;27 - 00;06;31;07
Dylan & Mateo
I like. Seeing people's faces. Some people that, Mom knows, but I don't know personally. And I like it when I get to see new faces and I get to see faces that I already know; Like, I get to see Dad, Abuela, TiIti Rocio.
00;06;31;07 - 00;06;36;22
Dora & Naomi
Oh, and Titi Ella.
00;06;36;25 - 00;06;41;13
Dylan & Mateo
And Titi Ella. And I also like, how they talk about leadership.
00;06;41;15 - 00;06;45;28
Dylan & Mateo
And I also like videos with me in it.
00;06;46;00 - 00;07;05;25
Dylan & Mateo
What? Just me. And what's your favorite part about the podcast and mom's channel and mom's business? That's how I like all of them. I like the purple. I had to choose one. I just can't I would just, Bye bye.
00;07;05;27 - 00;07;39;02
Dora & Naomi
Okay. We're back. I can't believe it. Our children are. We're so excited about being on the show, and, they had interesting questions for each other. Interesting answers. So we're back. And so we wanted to share a little bit more behind the scenes of Building Leadership Community Podcast. It was nice to hear, that our children enjoyed the show.
00;07;39;02 - 00;08;11;00
Dora & Naomi
We listened to it a lot in the car. So that's one. And we actually have interviewed, a lot of family this season. And so they mentioned, my mother, Abuela. And, she kicked off season one and season two, and she will definitely be kicking off season three. I'm going to share a little bit more about, season three preview later on.
00;08;11;03 - 00;08;46;25
Dora & Naomi
They mentioned Titi Ella, which is my aunt, their grand aunt. And instead of Abuela, she likes to be called Ella. So she's “Titi Ella” to them, and that's Carmen. She did a wonderful episode. She was our raffle winner. She actually won in the raffle. A slot to be a guest. And she spoke beautifully about her, culture shock as an immigrant coming to, the United States from the Dominican Republic.
00;08;46;25 - 00;09;17;03
Dora & Naomi
And she shared her leadership story. She's now a, she's an amazing leader and led an extraordinary life as an recreational therapist, an artist, dancer, martial artist, and she really, heals through dance therapy. And it was just a really great episode. We're really proud of her. And then they mentioned “Tia”, Titi Rocio, which was the last episode of the season.
00;09;17;03 - 00;09;50;04
Dora & Naomi
Full episode of the season, which is my sister, Rocio Méndez, who's a Fight and Intimacy Director, for the theater and, they like listening to their family members. And it was really great to hear their perspective on leadership. And I'm really proud of the both of them. And so, I want to bring on my co-producer, who many of you of you listen to the show,
00;09;50;04 - 00;10;16;26
Dora & Naomi
you watched the show, you know, it was my husband, Dylan Rogers, as the producer who has absorbed every conversation, every insight from our season two guests, the founders, the entrepreneurs, the community builders. I love to bring them to the stage and ask him, like, “what were 2 or 3 major themes or words of wisdom that really stood out to him?”
00;10;16;28 - 00;10;20;18
Dora & Naomi
So let's welcome. Hi, honey. Welcome.
00;10;20;20 - 00;10;25;19
Dylan & Mateo
Thank you. Glad to be here. Thank you for having me.
00;10;25;22 - 00;10;42;02
Dora & Naomi
I want to have I appreciate you coming from behind the scenes in front of the camera. I know that's not always so easy for you. You making sure you got your your shirt on? You look very handsome, Honey.
00;10;42;05 - 00;10;44;17
Dylan & Mateo
Thanks, You look beautiful.
00;10;44;19 - 00;10;53;27
Dora & Naomi
Thank you, honey, for the listeners, were my family and I were all wearing, our t-shirts, Coach Dora t-shirts.
00;10;54;00 - 00;11;25;04
Dora & Naomi
We have, like, a uniform for the show. If you're. If you listen, if you watch, you'll you'll notice we all have our Coach Dora t-shirts on. But if you're listening, we're all wearing our t shirts. All right, honey. So, Yeah. So the my question was for you is, as the producer, you get to listen to all of the episodes, you edit them, and I'd love for you to share sort of what stood out to you.
00;11;25;04 - 00;11;30;17
Dora & Naomi
And, what what themes stood out for you in season two?
00;11;30;20 - 00;11;59;05
Dylan & Mateo
That's a great question, Dora. I'm glad we have the time to dig into that. Empathy and vulnerability as a theme. Many of our guests, talked about the shift from old, rigid styles of leadership to one that embraces vulnerability. It's not a weakness, and it's a way to build trust. They emphasize that true connection comes when leaders show up as their whole selves.
00;11;59;07 - 00;12;13;18
Dylan & Mateo
And I see the results of that every time, guest shares personal feedback and how they over overcame it. It makes their advice so much more powerful.
00;12;13;21 - 00;12;17;13
Dora & Naomi
So when they share a story of a personal setback.
00;12;17;16 - 00;12;17;23
Yeah.
00;12;17;23 - 00;12;24;25
Dora & Naomi
Or when something, when some, when something didn't quite work out how they thought but they shared how they overcame it.
00;12;24;27 - 00;12;56;24
Dylan & Mateo
Right. And the power of, of the pivot. We interviewed a lot of folks this season. A common thread was the ability to pivot. And it's not about being attached to one way of doing things. It's about being flexible and having, the courage to change direction based on new information. It's leadership through continuous learning, which is very important.
00;12;56;26 - 00;12;59;18
Dylan & Mateo
That's the lesson we try to teach our children, right?
00;12;59;20 - 00;13;00;27
Dora & Naomi
Yes.
00;13;01;00 - 00;13;36;17
Dylan & Mateo
It's okay to change your mind if you, learn something new. And also, community first leadership. This is the the core of our podcast title. I was inspired by how many leaders prioritize their community over profit and personal gain. They see their business as a vehicle for positive impact. And that's the kind of holistic leadership that use success not just through numbers, but through well-being of the people they serve.
00;13;36;21 - 00;13;48;28
Dora & Naomi
That is, beautifully summarized, Honey. So, thank you for the behind the scenes perspective. Those themes truly represent the heart of season two.
00;13;49;00 - 00;13;50;13
Dylan & Mateo
And can I add one more thing?
00;13;50;15 - 00;13;51;15
Dora & Naomi
Sure.
00;13;51;17 - 00;14;08;21
Dylan & Mateo
I was very encouraged and inspired when we had Gilleon on the podcast, how she was talking about, how podcasts are like the new website, like that we’re kind of ahead of the curve there. That's good.
00;14;08;24 - 00;14;38;29
Dora & Naomi
So our guests are I think she was, our second guests. Gilleon Smith. GASM brands. She's also a brand strategist like yourself. And, yeah, she shared that, podcasts are the new website, and that, so that was very encouraging for us. And she was so supportive. She was literally one of the first people to watch our premiere episode.
00;14;38;29 - 00;15;08;06
Dora & Naomi
She texts me listening to it as it premiere, and she was listening to it and was texting me, and, she was just so encouraging. I was so happy to have her on the show. Every, every, I think every guest this season, we were very fortunate to have a personal connection to, Bora, who was our Bora Lee, the Chief of Staff of Fifth Avenue Committee.
00;15;08;09 - 00;15;39;26
Dora & Naomi
She was just so wonderful. You know, being a leader at a nonprofit organization that provides services here in Brooklyn, New York. Allison Martin, the founder of Engage Mentoring. We have really become friends through the years. We we it's so interesting how we connected. We're not, a couple of years ago. One of her salespeople was pitching me.
00;15;39;26 - 00;16;14;09
Dora & Naomi
And then somehow I got recruited to to partner with them. And now I'm a I partner with Engage Mentoring our missions align. And, her story was amazing. From Teen Mom to Founder. I mean, she her story was great. Her journey was amazing. They all were all of our story. Stephanie Martinez talking about, being a, leader through, her introvert, like being a leader.
00;16;14;11 - 00;16;44;28
Dora & Naomi
Not in spite of it, but just leadership in a different way. And then and I, she made me think about Brené Brown, because, you know, she considers herself a introvert. We even had a surprising guest, someone I didn't know that well that I connected with on LinkedIn, who works for Speaker Hub. We connected through the public speaking part of Coach Dora business.
00;16;44;28 - 00;17;05;14
Dora & Naomi
And, she's a former basketball player, a former coach. And, and I loved her perspective on community and how people lead in different ways and just reinforce, risk taking and
00;17;05;21 - 00;17;07;06
Dylan & Mateo
Angela R. Lewis.
00;17;07;09 - 00;17;37;04
Dora & Naomi
That's right, Angela R. Lewis. She was her episode was amazing. She talked about her family growing up. She talked about her career in sports and, how that really prepared her to take risks and be a leader. And, she I really heard her story was really impactful. So we had a professional basketball player on the show, which was really amazing.
00;17;37;07 - 00;18;12;17
Dora & Naomi
We had just such a really diverse group of leaders. We had, Priscilla Guasso., Guasso, who, leads, Latinas Rising Up in HR. And, I was connected to Priscilla at, because of my career in HR. We were connected. And, the opportunity for authorship came up and, volume three of their anthology, collecting stories from Latina HR leaders.
00;18;12;20 - 00;18;34;27
Dora & Naomi
Her story was really amazing. And she shared all the lessons she learned, in corporate hospitality, doing HR and how she then pivoted in her career and she's an amazing leader. And, I'm just so grateful for her support and, Latinas rising up in HR.
00;18;34;29 - 00;18;37;08
Dylan & Mateo
And we had another Dora.
00;18;37;08 - 00;19;11;06
Dora & Naomi
That's right. Every season we we had a Dora. So the first season we had Dora Lutz, from Indiana, and she's in the and, ESG and the environmental, socially responsible business world. And then this season we had Dora Jones, who was, she described herself as a HR double agent, who she, she works in talent acquisition, and then she helps people get jobs, and then she hires people to jobs.
00;19;11;06 - 00;19;34;02
Dora & Naomi
So she does both things. And she was her story was very inspiring as well. How she helps people and her her passion for talent acquisition. You know, I'm really was genuine and really came through, her store, her leadership story was really amazing and mirrored minds in a bit.
00;19;34;05 - 00;19;35;21
Dylan & Mateo
Heidi Romer
00;19;35;22 - 00;19;41;27
Dora & Naomi
Heidi Romer, That's right. Oh my goodness, Heidi and Hola Books.
00;19;41;29 - 00;20;14;00
Dora & Naomi
Another entrepreneur, a fellow entrepreneur. She launched her business, our her episode premiere. Right. Like a week before her business officially launched was this amazing way to support it, Hola Books. And, she's also been a wonderful support in her entrepreneurship and her story, her how the challenges of entrepreneurship and starting your own business is one that, definitely correlate to.
00;20;14;02 - 00;20;20;14
Dora & Naomi
And so we had and we had such an amazing season. And then we also had Lore Barcelona.
00;20;20;16 - 00;20;22;17
Right.
00;20;22;19 - 00;20;55;18
Dora & Naomi
Lore shared her interesting trilingual background, as, Executive Director of an organization that helps, children with and their families with intellectual disabilities, children on the autism spectrum, and supports their families. They have an amazing parent center there. So I was so happy to showcase her leadership story and the amazing work that Sinergia Inc. does, Sinergia being synergy.
00;20;55;20 - 00;21;10;16
Dora & Naomi
“Sinergia” is Spanish for synergy because they bring the family, the children, the parents and the systems together to support, the child through their life spanned live independently.
00;21;10;18 - 00;21;47;21
Dora & Naomi
so, I just loved, hearing her story and I think. And then, of course, my sister, me, Rocio Mendez, who, she's the first sort of actor that we've had, on the, on the show, and she shared her trajectory, as an actor going into fight and intimacy direction. And I just found it's fascinating. I found her story so fascinating.
00;21;47;23 - 00;22;07;14
Dora & Naomi
The kind of, like, really pull back the curtain on what happens behind the scenes, and theater and art and safety and and how, she inserts herself into these projects to help the storyteller and helps everyone be safe. So is that everyone, honey, that we.
00;22;07;16 - 00;22;12;18
Dylan & Mateo
Of course. We opened this season with your mother. Yeah.
00;22;12;20 - 00;22;26;10
Dora & Naomi
That's right. And we're going so that. That's a great lead in, Honey. Do you have any last thoughts before I wrap up the episode? And, and, tee up the preview for season three?
00;22;26;12 - 00;22;39;23
Dylan & Mateo
I just found all 12 of our guests to be incredibly, inspiring and, I look forward to seeing what season three holds.
00;22;39;26 - 00;23;06;14
Dora & Naomi
I wanted to mention. I guess we should plug what you're doing. Honey, would podcasting. So do you want to talk about, these two seasons? You get a lot of feedback because you also talk to the guests to schedule as the producer. You reach out to the guests to prep them and, schedule their recording times.
00;23;06;14 - 00;23;31;25
Dora & Naomi
And we get so many compliments about your work and so many of them ask us about, how we started the podcast. And almost everyone enjoys the experience. And we do like a post episode debrief that we've even had folks tell us, I got a like, podcast kit and is collecting dust.
00;23;31;28 - 00;23;32;26
Dylan & Mateo
MmHmm, right.
00;23;32;28 - 00;23;46;10
Dora & Naomi
And so we decided to share what we know. So do you want to talk a little bit about what you create, what you created to help other entrepreneurs and leaders? Podcast.
00;23;46;13 - 00;24;16;14
Dylan & Mateo
Right. We we created a mini course so you can ease into podcasting and take the mini course called the Entrepreneur's Podcast Blueprint. It's on Dora's website, CoachDoraMendez.com. And you can click on courses and find it there. For only $99, you can you get five video modules, guidebook that you can download and takes you through every detail.
00;24;16;17 - 00;24;27;06
Dylan & Mateo
You can start on a very, very slim budget and get your platform out there and also bring in people that you want to do business with and have them as your podcast guests.
00;24;27;09 - 00;24;30;02
Dora & Naomi
And what else do they get with the course?
00;24;30;04 - 00;24;57;28
Dylan & Mateo
You get, a downloadable set of AI prompts that you can use to transform your podcast episode transcript into all the communications you need to release a podcast so that you're not spending four hours writing descriptions and social media posts that can takes a long time, and it can be very exhausting. So you can just instantly turn your transcript into all of those things that you need in order to release your episode.
00;24;58;02 - 00;25;07;13
Dylan & Mateo
And also for a limited time, you can get a free consultation with me. We'll talk one on one about getting you all set up.
00;25;07;15 - 00;25;42;11
Dora & Naomi
And so, in addition to the mini course, the entrepreneur podcast blueprint for you're also, willing to take on 2 to 3 clients. So whoever gets if you take the course and you still feel like you need some support, you can reach out to Dylan. He is going to, he'll be happy to do an all-in-one service for you and help you produce your podcast where there is just audio, audio and video.
00;25;42;14 - 00;26;11;10
Dora & Naomi
So we can do both. We could help you both. And, we learned a lot from, our experience. And so we're sharing what we've learned and the we made a lot of mistakes. But we, we figured it out that first season. We didn't know what we're doing, but now we're here at the end of season two and, at 12,000 views on YouTube as of the recording of this and growing.
00;26;11;10 - 00;26;28;24
Dora & Naomi
And that's just on YouTube, we've also grown the audience on the audio platforms, on Spotify, Apple, iHeart radio, which is my favorite one because it's free. Amazon Music, you can find us,
00;26;28;27 - 00;26;29;10
Dylan & Mateo
and Audible
00;26;29;10 - 00;26;41;12
Dora & Naomi
Substack. Yeah. Audible, Substack. So everywhere you get your podcasts, you can find you can find us. And we have an abundance mindset here.
00;26;41;12 - 00;27;10;26
Dora & Naomi
We believe that everyone, can find, every leader deserves a bigger platform. And we think podcasting is that way. And we're happy to share what we learned with everyone. Including, tips on equipment. You'll find a checklist there in the workbook. In the in the guidebook, we have everything for you. So from A to Z including like, what kind of show you want to create?
00;27;10;28 - 00;27;21;29
Dora & Naomi
So, Hone, I know I'll let you go unless you have any other final thoughts that you want to share before I tee up. Give a preview to season three.
00;27;22;02 - 00;27;36;03
Dylan & Mateo
Well, thank you for having me. And we are looking forward to season three. We're going to have a lot of, Dora’s gonna tell you all about it. Yeah, I don't want to spoil it, but she's going to give you a little preview.
00;27;36;05 - 00;27;49;02
Dora & Naomi
All right honey, I know thanks again for coming in from behind the scenes, too. In front of the camera. And, I will see you momentarily.
00;27;49;05 - 00;28;13;09
