Organization: DisruptHR DC Theme: Say the quiet part out loud Role: Speaker Name: Dora Mendez Talk Title: “Stop! Stop calling it a skills gap” Date: Wednesday, May 20th, 2026 Website: https://disrupthrdc.com/

Last month’s 2nd Anniversary edition of Coach Dora’s Insights had me reflecting on the power of community.

Showing up with you every second Tuesday has become something I truly value. Leadership can often feel isolating, especially for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and HR professionals carrying both strategic pressure and emotional labor at the same time.

And lately, I’ve been asking myself:

What more can I bring to leaders navigating complexity right now?

This next chapter is focused on more honest conversations, practical leadership tools, and support that feels both strategic and human.

Because milestones are not finish lines. They are invitations to go deeper. To create more meaningful conversations. To offer practical tools leaders can actually use. To support people in ways that feel relevant, sustainable, and grounded in the realities leaders are carrying every day.

That is the direction I’m leaning into this season, and I’m grateful you’re part of it.

Coming Up This Month

DISRUPTHR DC 2026

“Say the Quiet Part Out Loud”

DisruptHR is the TED Talk for HR and people leaders — five minutes, twenty slides, all truth.

📍 National Union Building
918 F Street NW, Washington, DC

📅 Tuesday, May 20, 2026
🕔 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

If you’re in the area, I’d truly love to see you there.

This event is centered around courageous leadership conversations, the kind that challenge us to sit with discomfort long enough for growth to happen.

Leadership today requires more than polished messaging. It requires honesty, reflection, and the willingness to address what many organizations still avoid discussing openly.

And that is exactly what this conversation is about.

If you can’t attend in person, follow along on YouTube. I’ll be sharing the talk once it’s recorded.

Featured Content This Month

Career Clarity Mondays + Real Talk Leadership

This month on YouTube, I’m leaning into conversations around:

  • AI tools that reduce overload
  • Career pivots and leadership clarity
  • Real leadership challenges nonprofit and entrepreneurial leaders face every day
  • Equity and inclusion beyond performative moments
  • Leadership fatigue and burnout
  • Team and board dynamics

These conversations are rooted in what many leaders are experiencing right now: trying to lead effectively while navigating constant change, growing demands, and limited capacity.

Through Career Clarity Mondays, I’m sharing coaching stories, practical career insights, and leadership transitions that remind people they are not stuck.

Through Real Talk Leadership, I’m creating space for the conversations many organizations still struggle to have openly.

And through practical AI leadership content, I’m focused on helping leaders reduce noise, communicate more clearly, and create systems that actually support people instead of overwhelming them.

What I’ve Been Working On

Over the past month, I’ve been building resources specifically for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and HR professionals who are leading through complexity with limited capacity.

One of the projects I’m especially excited about is:

AI Leadership Communication Hacks: Your Prompt Playbook

This resource was designed to help leaders communicate with more confidence, clarity, and efficiency without losing the human side of leadership in the process.

I’ve also been developing:

  • Interview preparation and career clarity prompts
  • Strategic leadership tools for people-first organizations
  • Communication resources designed to reduce overwhelm and strengthen leadership confidence

At the same time, I’m thinking more intentionally about community and connection.

I’m exploring ways to create more interactive spaces through:

  • Live conversations
  • Small group discussions
  • Leadership problem-solving sessions
  • Real-time coaching and strategy conversations

The goal is simple:

Create leadership support that feels practical, relevant, and deeply human.

As a Fractional CHRO, I continue partnering with organizations navigating growth, culture shifts, leadership development, and people strategy alignment. More and more, the work centers around helping organizations build sustainable cultures while supporting leaders who are carrying significant emotional and operational demands.

 Why Fractional HR Leadership Matters

Many organizations are navigating significant people challenges without the internal leadership infrastructure to fully support them.

That’s where Fractional HR leadership can make a meaningful difference.

Organizations often benefit from a Fractional CHRO when they are:

  • Scaling rapidly
  • Experiencing leadership transitions
  • Building stronger workplace culture systems
  • Addressing burnout and retention challenges
  • Developing equitable leadership practices
  • Aligning people strategy with organizational growth

My work focuses on helping organizations create people-centered strategies that are sustainable, actionable, and aligned with long-term business goals.

Because leadership strategy is not just about performance. It’s about people.

Building Leadership Community

For this special bonus episode of the Building Leadership Community Podcast, I handed the mic to my children for Take Your Children to Work Day, and they interviewed me with questions and perspectives that made the conversation feel honest, heartfelt, and real.

It reminded me that leadership is not only about what we do professionally, but the example we live every day.

Partnership Spotlight

Leadership & Innovation in Public Service Symposium

This spring, I had the honor of serving as a panelist at the 2026 Leadership & Innovation in Public Service Symposium hosted by John Jay College/CUNY.

My presentation, Coaching Through Crisis: Building Resilient Leadership for Gender Equity in Local Government, explored how leaders can navigate uncertainty with resilience, empathy, and accountability.

What made this experience especially meaningful was the opportunity to engage with scholars, practitioners, and changemakers committed to advancing inclusive leadership during times of disruption and change.

The conversations did not end when the session closed. Through the Talkadot engagement platform, attendees shared thoughtful reflections about courageous leadership, authentic dialogue, and creating workplaces where people feel supported through crisis and transition.

I’m deeply grateful for the partnership, the exchange of ideas, and the community that continues to grow from these conversations.

 Closing Reflection

Leadership growth often begins with the conversations we avoid the longest.

The leaders who create lasting impact are not necessarily the loudest or most polished. They are the ones willing to lead with courage, curiosity, adaptability, and humanity.

Sometimes growth begins when we finally say the quiet part out loud.

Thank you for continuing to grow, reflect, and lead alongside this community.
