Every June, we celebrate the richness of identities that strengthen our community.  From celebrating LGBTQI+ Pride Month to Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.  Let's celebrate the LGBTQI+ community and the legacy of Juneteenth by becoming active allies. 

Acknowledging the Celebration of Pride Month as intersectional - recognizing the deep connection between LGBTQI+ Pride, and Black American liberation.  As a cisgender Afro-Latina mother, I dream of a world where my children – and all children – can thrive in an environment of acceptance and understanding. I recently had the pleasure of presenting at their staff retreat at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. The team at Arcus is as diverse as their mission, and the retreat's objective was all about strengthening their collaborative efforts. It was a truly enriching experience to be a part of their discussions and see their passion firsthand.

 The recent staff retreat session in Chicago provided invaluable perspectives that I deeply appreciate, offering both encouragement and opportunities for refinement. Noticing waning engagement, I recognized the need for adjustments to ensure future sessions are impactful and resonate as intended.  

As a facilitator, my goal is to create meaningful experiences that inspire and provide lasting value. While mixed reviews can be difficult, they ultimately drive innovation. A LOOK BACK

Last month in the spirit of graduation, it’s a time to celebrate new beginnings and the leaders of tomorrow. As many of you know, my passion for service extends to teaching as an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY). As an alumna, it's an honor to help shape the next wave of public sector leaders, bringing real-world challenges and empowering strategies into their learning journey.

I recently had an opportunity to expand on these insights as the alumna guest on the amazing, Dr. Elsa-Sofia Morote’s “Graduate Power” show, alongside, Dr. Jason Rivera, distinguished chair of our department. This wasn't just a discussion; it was a chance to connect with future leaders and share the  passion behind effective public management.
